Bud Smith named new BCLC chair
Former BC attorney general Bud Smith has been appointed as the new chair of the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC)'s board of directors. A member of the BCLC board since May 2012, Smith was selected by the British Columbia government to replace the retiring John McLernan, who has held the position since 2005.
Prior to his newest post, Smith served as Kamloops Member of the Legislative Assembly and a Cabinet Minister (Regional Economic Development). He also held several leaderships positions on Crown Corporation boards including the Prince Rupert Port Authority (2007-2009/Chair, April 2012), Ridley Terminals Inc. (2009-2012), the B.C. Development Corporation (1979-1983), and Canada Post Corporation (1991-1994). In the 1980s, Smith also played a key role in moving BCLC to its current home in Kamloops, B.C.
Outside of his industry work, Smith has been involved as chancellor of Diocese of Cariboo, a key member of the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce, and trustee of the Western Canada Theatre Company. He has been a member of the Law Society of British Columbia since 1975.
